Imbibition - A measure of the ability of a textile to hold water.

Industrial Fabric - A broad term used to describe fabrics with a utilitarian purpose (usually excluding apparel and decorative fabrics).

Inherent Flame Resistance - When applied to textiles, the type of flame resistance that is derived from an essential characteristic of the fiber from which the textile is made.

Inhibitor - In textiles, a chemical agent added to prevent fading, degradation, or other undesirable effects.

Institutional Market (for wholesale linens) - The wholesale linens market consisting of prospective sales to private hospitals, nursing homes, colleges & universities, charities, and other private organizations with primary objectives other than profit. The institutional market differs from the governmental market in that institutional is private where as governmental is public.

Interlock Knit - A fabric produced by arranging long and short needles in direct alignment with each other in both the dial and cylinder. When the long and short needles knit in alternate feeds in both needle housings, a fabric with a cross 1x1 rib effect is produced.
