AATCC - An acronym for the American Association of Textile Chemists and Colorists. This organization is the world's leading not-for-profit professional association for the textile design, materials, processing, and testing industries. Located on the web at www.aatcc.org.

Abrasion Mark - An area on the wholesale linen product damaged by friction.

Absorbency - The amount and speed with which a textile will take up a liquid into its fibers.

Accelerant - A chemical used to speed up a process.

Accordion Pleat - A series of narrow, regularly spaced, pressed folds in fabrics, usually running in the lengthwise direction.

Acidic Textile - A textile with a pH of less than 7.0 in water.

AHLA - An acronym for the for the trade association American Hotel & Lodging Association. Located on the web at www.ahla.com.

Air Jet Dyeing Machine - A jet dyeing machine that uses air jets to move the fabric through the dye liquor. The machine uses a low liquor ratio, which lowers energy costs.

Air Permeability - The ease with which air passes through a textile.

Alkaline Textile - A textile with a pH of greater than 7.0 in water.

Antichlor Treatment - A chemical treatment used to remove excess chlorine after bleaching.

Applique - A design made separately and then sewn, glued, or otherwise affixed to fabric.
